According to Tibetan oral tradition, the existence of singing bowls dates back to the 4th or 5th Century Before Christ. The tradition and use originated in India in the 8th Century BC and was then used widely by Tibetan Buddhist, along with the teachings of the Buddha.
Singing bowls produce sounds which invoke a deep state of relaxation helping with meditation, as well as stress reduction, holistic healing, Reiki, chakra balancing, and music.
Traditionally they were made of an alloy of 7 metals: brass, copper, zinc, gold, lead, mercury and silver; now mix vary depending on the original artist and producer.
The sound that each singing bowl is producing and reproducing is the one of the Universal ancestral sound of OHM . Each bowl is focusing on one particular chakra which could vary slightly for each person as the bowl's sound resonates with the player and with the environment.
